PLANETARIUM AND OLYMPIC FOUNTAIN

ON THIS FIELD TRIP WE RODE THE PUBLIC BUS AND THE TRAX TRAIN DOWNTOWN TO THE GATEWAY WHERE WE WENT TO THE PLANETARIUM. WE SAW SOME OF THE DISPLAYS AND WATCHED THE MOVIE THE CARDBOARD ROCKET WHICH IS ABOUT ALL OF THE PLANETS IN OUR SOLAR SYSTEM. AFTER THE PLANETARIUM WE WALKED OVER TO THE OLYMPIC FOUNTAIN AND HAD LUNCH ON THE ROCKS. THE KIDS THEN RAN AROUND IN THE FOUNTAIN AND HAD FUN GETTING ALL WET. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL DAY AND WE HAD A GREAT TIME. MY GROUP SOPHIA, MESA, J.J., AND ANDREW RIDING THE TRAX TRAIN.

RED BUTTE GARDENS

ON MONDAY I ACCOMPANIED NICHOLAS' CLASS TO RED BUTTE GARDENS. I HAD NEVER BEEN THERE BEFORE AND WAS EXCITED TO FIND OUT WHAT IT WAS ALL ABOUT. WE HAD A GUIDE TAKE US ON A HIKE UP IN THE HILLS ABOVE THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH AND SHOW US ALL THE DIFFERENT THINGS FOUND IN NATURE. IT WAS VERY INTERESTING AND I REALLY LEARNED A LOT. IT WAS QUITE HOT THAT DAY AND I GOT A PRETTY GOOD SUNBURN ON THE BACK OF MY NECK. NEXT TIME I WILL FOR SURE BRING SUNSCREEN. WELL HERE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS WE SAW AND LEARNED ABOUT IN RED BUTTE GARDENS.

THESE ARE THE BOYS WHO WERE IN MY GROUP. NICHOLAS, ROBERTO, FISCHER AND ANDREW.

THE COLORED SPECS GROWING ON THE ROCK ARE TWO DIFFERENT ORGANISMS, FUNGUS AND ALGAE. WHEN THEY GROW TOGETHER THEY FORM WHAT IS CALLED LICHEN. THEY WORK TOGETHER TO PROVIDE NUTRIENTS AND OXYGEN TO TREES AND THEY SURVIVE ON ROCKS BY USING THE MINERALS FOUND IN THE STONE.
